CODA were delighted to receive two awards at the WA chapter of the Australian Institute of Architecture Awards on Friday night. Building for Diversity received a commendation in the Multiple Housing Category, whilst the MG/GT Administration Building received an architecture award in the commercial category.
In awarding each project, the judges made the following comments:
This delightful regional project triumphs over budget constraint, briefing complexity and an unforgiving location to make an enormous social and cultural contribution to the community of Kununurra. With insight, sensitivity and skill the designers have created a welcoming, symbolic architecture to address the social and commercial complexities of the client group. The MG/GT Admin Building sets a new benchmark for built form in the region. Generating an impact far greater that its scale and limited-means might suggest, this small building elevates the spirit and engenders a sense of civic pride in staff, visitors and the broader community alike.
This project is far from a typical response to a complex combination of specific accommodation requirements. The resulting facility is a clever and strong design solution that provides practical and interesting environments for the residents. The form and massing of the design also provides a positive contribution to the streetscape.
We’re enormously proud of both of these projects and it was great to be able to celebrate their success with our studio and the Perth architecture community.
